Stepping Out in Faith: Risks and Rewards

Taking a leap of faith can feel terrifying. It requires leaving the comfort of what you know and stepping into the unknown, unsure of what lies ahead. But faith, by its very nature, demands trust—trust in God’s promises, trust in His timing, and trust in His ability to guide you through the challenges. While stepping out in faith comes with risks, the rewards on the other side often exceed anything you could have imagined.


Faith Requires Risk


When God calls you to step out in faith, it often feels risky. Why? Because faith asks you to surrender control and trust in God’s plan, even when the outcome isn’t clear. It may mean:

Starting a new business or ministry without guaranteed success.

Moving to a new city or country without knowing anyone.

Pursuing a calling that seems bigger than your abilities.

Letting go of something familiar to embrace something new.


These steps often involve discomfort, uncertainty, and even fear. But just as Peter stepped out of the boat to walk on water, we, too, are called to take that first step—trusting that Jesus will hold us steady.


The Rewards of Faith


Though the risks are real, the rewards of stepping out in faith are far greater. Here’s what you can experience when you take that leap:

1. Spiritual Growth

Faith stretches you. It takes you beyond your limits, forcing you to rely on God rather than your own understanding. As you step out in obedience, your faith grows deeper, your relationship with God strengthens, and your trust in His faithfulness is solidified.

2. Miracles and Breakthroughs

When you move in faith, you position yourself to experience God’s power in ways you never imagined. Many of the greatest breakthroughs in life come after stepping out in faith—healing, restoration, provision, or a calling fulfilled.

3. God’s Perfect Provision

God never calls you to something without equipping you for it. While the journey may feel uncertain, you’ll discover that He provides everything you need—resources, people, wisdom, and strength—right when you need it.

4. Impact Beyond Yourself

When you step out in faith, you often impact more than just your own life. Your obedience can bless others, inspire faith in those around you, and fulfill God’s purpose in ways that ripple out far beyond what you can see.

5. Greater Joy and Fulfillment

Living a life of faith brings a sense of joy and fulfillment that cannot be found in a life of comfort. Knowing that you are walking in God’s purpose, no matter how challenging the road, brings a deep satisfaction that surpasses temporary happiness.


Faith Over Fear


It’s natural to feel fear when faced with the unknown. But fear and faith cannot coexist—one will always overpower the other. When you choose faith, you’re declaring your trust in God’s promises over your own doubts.


Joshua 1:9 reminds us, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”


God doesn’t promise an easy path, but He does promise to go with you. He is faithful to guide your steps, catch you when you stumble, and lead you to a place of abundance.


The Call to Step Out


Maybe God is calling you to take a step of faith today. It could be something big and bold, or it could be a small act of obedience that feels daunting. Whatever it is, remember that the rewards of trusting Him will always outweigh the risks.


Take the leap. Trust that God will meet you there. Because when you step out in faith, you step into His promises—and His plans for you are always greater than anything you could imagine.


“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.” (Ephesians 3:20-21)
